The #1 Reason To Hire A Certified Running Coach

Choose a running topic… and I don’t care how niche it is. It could be gait analysis, how to peak for a marathon, running vest selection, etc…

SENSORY OVERLOAD

There is SO much information out there on any given topic, that it’s sensory overload. For example, a study was done in 2000 on jams (yes, the fruit spread!). When only 6 jams were displayed in a supermarket, they sold more jams as opposed to when 24 types were displayed. This type of study has been repeated multiple times with the same result.

Too much choice (or information) paralyzes the consumer

Additionally, in the jam study, too many choices not only led to decreased sales, but also to decreased customer satisfaction.

In a 2015 study that examined consumer choices, it found that there are four primary criteria that motivate individuals to make a purchase:

  1. When people want to make a quick and easy choice
  2. When the product is complex (so fewer choices help the consumer make a decision)
  3. When it’s difficult to compare alternatives
  4. When consumers don’t have clear preferences

So how does this relate to hiring a running coach?

With so much information out there on all topics pertaining to running, it’s exhausting! More specifically, a lot of the information out there on a particular topic is conflicting – so how can you decipher accurate from inaccurate information, or select the information that is best fit for you? Likely you can’t.

While our take on pre-formatted training programs at UESCA is that they are not the correct way to go due to the lack of customization, we understand the allure – a simple, straight forward program telling you exactly what to do and on what days.

But I digress… by hiring an experienced, certified running coach, you leave all of the decision making to the coach and it allows you both the time, and mental space to focus on your running and all other things not related to googling, ‘What is pronation?’ during your free time.

In an interview with Tony Robbins, he noted that because there is so much information out there competing for your attention, the only way to get your attention is to shock you (BREAKING NEWS!!!)… which is also likely not the best advice!

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

By hiring a certified running coach, you get a customized program that is developed and modified specifically based on your needs and goals without having to worry about all the extraneous noise out there on blogs, websites, magazines, etc…

SUMMARY

So if you’re feeling a bit paralyzed by all of the running information out there and as a result, you don’t know where to start, here is my advice:

Interview certified running coaches that have a lot of knowledge of the body and how it applies to running to see who would be the right fit to help you successfully navigate your training and racing.
